NURS 125 Paramedic Transition Concepts
This course will explore professional behaviors, standards, and expectations deemed necessary to function in the role of the registered nurse as the student transitions from the role of the Paramedic. Concepts from the biophysical, psychosocial and nursing domains will be explored and select content from
NURS 142 and
NURS 143 will be presented. Nursing care is focused on the restoration of optimal function for adult clients using the nursing process and evidence-based practices to apply theory to practice, formulate nursing judgments, and develop competencies to provide safe patient-centered care. Clinical, skills laboratory, and simulation experiences will supplement didactic learning methods. Progression to the second year of the Nursing associate degree program will occur after completion of this course.
Prerequisite
Formal admission into the Paramedic to RN Pathway Sequence program, BIOL 107, BIOL 204, CHEM 103,
ENGL 121,
PSYC 200, and MATH 132, 138 or higher

4 hours theory, 6 hours clinical
Course Objectives
- Demonstrate a holistic/multicultural approach in the provision of patient-centered care.

- Utilize various communication techniques to support continuity of care and achieve patient-centered goals.

- Implement nursing interventions according to standards of practice, policies, and procedures in the delivery of nursing care.
- Utilize knowledge of sciences, pharmacology, and nursing concepts to formulate nursing judgments.
- Apply the concepts of evidence-based practice to examine a nursing practice area of interest.
- Explore differences in roles, education, and practice between paramedics and registered nurses.
