WELD 110 Gas Metal/Flux Cored Arc Welding I
In this course, students will develop the fundamental skills to perform welding using the gas metal and flux cored arc welding processes including short circuiting, spray, and pulsed spray modes. Classroom instruction and laboratory practice follow the American Welding Society (AWS) standards to ensure safe, industry-aligned performance.
Hours Weekly
2 hours lab, 4 hours lab
A graduate should be able to
- Explain the fundamental principles of GMAW and FCAW.
- Identify and interpret common GMAW/FCAW electrode classifications.
- Describe and identify the four primary metal transfer modes.
- Demonstrate safe and proficient GMAW/FCAW operations in a variety of positions and joint designs.
- Explain the basics of polarity and welding machine settings and operation.
- Identify common GMAW/FCAW weld discontinuities and defects.
- Apply safety protocols specific to GMAW/FCAW operations in compliance with industry standards.
- Apply industry-standard technical terminology to communicate effectively in both laboratory and classroom welding environments.
