Hours Weekly

2 hours lecture, 4 hours lab

A graduate should be able to

  1. Select appropriate electrodes, polarity, and amperage for specific pipe welding applications.
  2. Identify different pipe grades, materials, and schedules.
  3. Demonstrate proficient shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) operation in multiple positions using various electrode types.
  4. Explain the function and importance of root, fill, and cap passes and select suitable electrodes for each.
  5. Prepare pipe materials through beveling, fit-up, and alignment using given dimensional tolerances.
  6. Identify common pipe welding discontinuities and defects and apply corrective and preventive techniques.
  7. Apply safety protocols specific to pipe welding operations in compliance with industry standards.
  8. Apply industry-standard technical terminology to communicate effectively in both laboratory and classroom welding environments.
