Student and Faculty Speaker Eligibility and Guidelines

The below guidelines are for choosing student and faculty speakers and developing speeches/presentations for School of Nursing events.

Student Speakers:

  • Class or cohort elects the student speaker
  • Program Director/Program Coordinator provides the elected student with a time limit for the speech and the following guidelines
    1. Be inspirational
    2. Be positive
    3. Use humor
    4. Be appropriate to a non-nursing audience

The elected student must submit a written presentation to the Program Director at least two weeks before the event.  The Program Director reviews content and length for appropriateness to the event and audience.

Faculty Speakers:

  • Program Director or Coordinator provides a list of eligible faculty to student representatives.
  • Faculty are eligible if they set a good example for students and have not spoken at a student event for the previous two academic years.  For example, if a faculty speaks in spring 2017, they are eligible to speak again in spring 2019.
  • Students vote for the faculty speaker from among those eligible on presented list.
  • Program Director or Coordinator provides the faculty member with a time limit for the speech and the following guidelines
    1. Be inspirational
    2. Be positive regarding the IHP, SON and the profession
    3. Use humor
    4. Make sure the speech is appropriate to a non-nursing audience.
