ENG 300 American Literature to 1865

This course focuses on the origins of American Literature beginning with the indigenous peoples and explorers of the sixteenth century through the Colonial, Federalist, and Romantic periods to the end of the Civil War. It includes a broad range of texts: political essays, songs, narratives, memoirs, myths, poetry, and the emerging American novel, and reflects a broad range of discourse communities representative of the many perspectives and voices within the United States. Prerequisite(s): ENG 101, ENG 203, and ENG 201. Co-requisite(s): None. 5 quarter hours
