Mathematical foundations of linear time invariant control systems. Controllability, observability, stabilizability, feedback. Elements of the calculus of variations and optimal control. Dynamic programming. Pontryagin maximum principle. Applications. This is the second course in a sequence of two: Mth 477 and Mth 478. Expected preparation: Mth 253, Mth 254.
