Spanish Major

A major in Spanish at UT is designed to give students flexible options as liberal arts graduates, including graduate or professional schools and a variety of career opportunities.  Spanish majors are required to take a yearly proficiency exam designed to assess the progression of their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, as well as their cultural awareness.  All Spanish majors are required to complete a capstone experience worth 2 credits during their senior year in one of the following areas:  linguistics, literature, second-language acquisition or cultural studies under the guidance of a full-time faculty member of the department of Languages and Linguistics.

It is strongly recommended that all Spanish majors study abroad for either a full semester or extended summer program in Spain or Latin America, either through the department or in consultation with the student's major advisor.
