OH-784 Community Based Rehabilitation

Prerequisites: For OT students: Successful completion of year one coursework and concurrent with summer 2 coursework. For non OT students - permission of instructor.  This course will introduce students to Community Based Rehabilitation, an initiative developed by the World Health Organization to enhance the quality of people with disabilities, their families, communities, and ensure their inclusion and participation in developing countries. Students will discuss disability from multiple perspectives including human rights, medical/social/biopsycho-social models of disability, stigma and stereotypes and the implications for health, participation, globalization and multiculturalism. Students will implement CBR and immerse with under served communities including refugees.
