EDUC 2111 The Trauma-Informed Teacher

This course is an introduction to trauma-informed care including the nature of traumatic events and the impact on biological, psychological, academic, and social functioning as it relates to P-12 student development and learning. In addition, students enrolled in the course will identify resiliency factors contributing to growth and well-being despite adverse childhood events. This course prepares the preservice teacher for designing trauma-informed individual and system-wide interventions in the school setting. Preservice teachers will apply universal and foundational traumatic stress assessment skills in discerning appropriate intervention methods based on the students’ level of need and context.
