Earnings

Median annual wages nationally for interior designers were $51,500 in May 2017. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $27,270, and the top 10 percent earned more than $93,780. The median annual wages in 2016 for interior designers in the top five industries in which they worked were as follows:
  • $59,090 in architectural, engineering, and related services
  • $52,640 in residential building construction
  • $50,970 in wholesale trade 
  • $50,510 in specialized design services 
  • $42,400 in furniture stores
