Surgical technologists, also called operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations. They prepare operating rooms, arrange equipment, and help doctors during surgeries. Most surgical technologists work in hospitals and spend the majority of the day on their feet. The largest employers of surgical technologist were as follows:

• 71%        Hospitals; state, local, and private
• 11%        Office of Physicians
• 11%        Outpatient Care Centers
•  4%        Office of Dentists        

Surgical technologists held about 107,700 jobs in 2016. The median pay for a surgical technologist according to the 2016 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics was $45,160 per year/$21.71 per hour. The job outlook for surgical technologists is expected to increase faster than average by 12% between 2016 to 2026.
