Health Studies Minor
The minor in Health Studies helps students explore the question: How can we help people be healthier in terms of personal wellness as well as public, community, and planetary health? Health is an interdisciplinary field drawing from studies in physiology, nutrition, physical education, sociology, psychology, women's studies, child and family studies, education, agriculture and sustainability, social justice studies, and other fields, so this minor can complement the knowledge and ideas from many disciplines across campus.
Degree Requirements
The minor in Health Studies requires a minimum of five (5) course credits, as follows:
Required Core Course

Required additional HLT Course
One (1) additional course from the list above or another HLT course approved by the program to meet this requirement (i.e., a summer travel course or a health-related internship); selection of this course must be approved by the Health Teaching minor advisor
Admission to the Minor— An interview with members of the Health faculty in the Program, as well as a program recommendation, are required for admission to the Health minor.
Proficiency Requirements for Retention in and Completion of the Minor— A grade of C (2.0 GPA) or higher in each required Health Studies minor course, as well as in each prerequisite and collateral course, is required for continuation in the minor. Students not receiving a grade of C or higher may repeat that particular course to raise the grade while remaining in the minor program. In addition to the course GPA requirement above, certification in first aid including adult, child, and infant cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with Automated External Defibrillator (AED) must be completed by the first term of the senior year. May be met by taking HLT 109 or through successful completion of an outside course with certification.
