ASTR 81.01 Observing in South Africa

This course is an advanced study of a topic in observational astronomy, including a one- week observing session at the South African Astronomical Observatory in Sutherland, South Africa. During their time at the observatory, students will have the opportunity to collect data for their observational project. At the completion of the observing, students will return to Cape Town where they will work in pairs, analyzing the data they obtained at the observatory. The course will culminate with a written presentation of the results of the students' research project. Speci\fc research topics will vary and could range from studies of exoplanets, stars or other galaxies, depending on faculty and student interest.
