Transfer & Visiting Student Application Procedures
Students transferring to HCC to complete their certificate or degree who are interested in receiving financial aid at HCC must:
-
Update their FAFSA with HCC’s federal school code (008175) by going online to www.studentaid.gov
-
State Scholarship recipients must update the school attendance information to include HCC on the Maryland Higher Education Commission Office website using MDCAPS.
-
Loan applicants must notify your current school that you are transferring to Howard Community College so that they will cancel all outstanding loan request.
-
NOTE: Students are only eligible to receive aid at one college/university during a single term.
Visiting Students are students who are enrolling at HCC for a term and plan to return to their home school to complete their degree or certificate.
Visiting students must have their financial aid processed through their home institution under a "Consortium Agreement", and this must be planned for and completed before enrollment at HCC. A consortium agreement is a written agreement required by federal law between HCC and the student's "home" institution, where the home institution will process the student's aid based on the student's enrollment at HCC in anticipation of those credits transferring back to the home institution and applying towards the student's degree or certificate. HCC serves as the “host” institution in these situations, meaning that the student must be enrolled in an eligible certificate or degree program at the other college. Financial aid must be processed through the home institution. HCC will cancel all aid for any students who are found to be receiving financial aid concurrently at HCC and another institution, or who are not pursuing a degree or certificate at HCC.
