ENG 34300 Victorian Literature

(GE-Lit) This course examines representative works of English literature from 1832 to 1901. These works are studied in their cultural contexts with special attention given to doubts and hopes raised by the new science, the implications of the Industrial Revolution, and the rise of a new middle-class audience.
