Clinical Attendance

Clinical Attendance

Prelicensure Clinical Courses:

  • Attendance is required for all clinical, skills, simulation or lab learning experiences. The student must notify the clinical instructor of an absence within the hour prior to the learning experience. Failure to do so will constitute an unexcused absence.
  • Absences that are unexcused will result in a clinical warning.
  • Students who miss clinical, skills, simulation or lab learning experiences will be required to make this up to meet course and clinical objectives.
  • Two or more unexcused absences within the same semester from clinical practice will result in clinical failure.

*Anyone who is doing a 1:1 preceptorship should work with their assigned preceptor to make up hours.

CLINICAL MAKE-UP is defined is:

  1. A full clinical day made up on an alternate clinical day if allowed by the clinical agency.
  2. A simulation that meets course and clinical objectives.

Clinical make-up dates and times will be determined by faculty

Timeliness

A late arrival to clinical practice by 10 minutes or more without prior notification will be considered an unexcused absence, and the student will be dismissed from clinical for the day. A clinical warning will be issued. Habitual tardiness, defined as arriving late on two or more occasions without proper notification, will result in a clinical warning

Advanced Practice Clinical Courses:

  •  Attendance is required for all clinical experiences including OSCEs. The student must notify the clinical preceptor and practicum faculty ideally with 24 hours’ notice but at least one hour prior to the learning experience. Failure to do so will constitute an unexcused absence.
  • Absences that are unexcused will result in a clinical warning.
  • Students who miss advanced practice clinical hours will be required to arrange make up hours with their assigned preceptor to meet course requirements. If the preceptor is unable to make up hours, students must meet with seminar faculty to determine next steps.
  • Two or more unexcused absences within the same semester from clinical will result in course failure.
