CA-710 Auditory Assessment - Behavioral Measures (3 credits) This course introduces basic audiometric test procedures including pure-tone air- and bone-conduction thresholds, masking, and speech perception testing.
CA-712 Auditory Assessment – Objective Measures (3 credits) This course introduces the bases for, and implementation of, objective measures of auditory function including acoustic immittance, otoacoustic emissions, and auditory evoked potentials.
CA-714 Pediatric Audiology (3 credits) This course provides an overview of auditory development, pediatric test techniques, congenital hearing disorders, and child-family intervention strategies.
CA-720 Anatomy and Physiology of Hearing (3 credits) This course reviews the anatomy and physiology of the outer-, middle-, and inner-ear as well as the central auditory system.
CA-722 Auditory Perception and Psychoacoustics (3 credits) This course reviews the psychoacoustic correlates of auditory perception as they apply to clinical audiology and communication.
CA-723 Etiology and Differential Diagnosis (3 credit) This course reviews the etiology, symptoms, and differential diagnoses of pathologies and disorders affecting the auditory and vestibular systems.
CA-724 Genetics of Hearing Loss (1 credit) This course introduces the genetic origins of hearing disorders including inheritance patterns and syndromic/non-syndromic genotypes as they relate to the degree, type, and age of hearing loss onset. Genetic counseling for patients and families is also covered.
CA-730 Hearing Technology 1 - Hearing Aids (3 credits) This course introduces the principles of amplification in ear-level devices, acoustics of the ear-canal and ear-molds, fitting prescriptions, verification procedures, and user orientation.
CA-731 Hearing Technology 2 - Advanced Hearing Aids (3 credits) This course provides advanced instruction in signal processing features in ear-level hearing aids as well as selection and use of assistive listening devices.
CA-732 Hearing Technology 3 - Implantable Devices (3 credits) This course provides advanced training in fitting and validation of cochlear and brainstem implants as well as current advances in implantable hearing technologies.
CA-740 Principles of Vestibular Function and Balance Disorders (3 credits) This course reviews the anatomy and physiology of the peripheral and central vestibular systems as well as common disorders of the balance system.
CA-742 Advanced Vestibular Assessment (3 credits) This course reviews advanced methods for assessing vestibular function including ENG/VNG, rotary chair, posturography, VHIT and VEMP.
CAH-810 Research Methods/Quality Improvements (3 credits) Prerequisites: None. This course prepares students to be critical consumers of different of types of research, methods, and statistics that are commonly used to investigate normal and disordered human communication in laboratory and clinical settings.
CA-812 Acoustics and Instrumentation (2 credits) This course introduces the instrumentation commonly used in hearing assessment and hearing device fitting and verification as wells as the calibration of those instruments.
CA-820 Industrial Hearing, Conservation, and Screening (2 credit) This course reviews the risks of hearing loss due to noise exposure and the audiologist’s role in noise level assessment and abatement.
CA-822 Practice Management (3 credits) This course reviews the business aspects of professional practice in private settings including ethics, personnel management, suppliers and manufacturers, information management, billing, as well as applicable laws and regulations.
CA-830 Psychosocial & Multicultural Impact of Hearing Loss (2 credits) Prerequisites: None. This course reviews the psychological, social, and multicultural impact of hearing loss as well as the social determinants and health disparities related to communication disorders.
CAH-832 Counseling (2 credits) Prerequisites: None. This course reviews the principles of counseling patients with hearing loss throughout the lifespan through course readings, discussions, role play, reflection, and peer-to-peer assessment.
CAH-834 Adult Aural Rehabilitation (2 credits) This course covers the rehabilitation of communication disorders due to hearing loss including hearing handicap evaluation and communication strategies for adults.
CAH-840 Pediatric Aural Habilitation and Educational Audiology (2 credits) This course covers the education, counseling, synthesis of hearing evaluation measures, and development of intervention strategies for children.
CA-882 Externship Seminar (2 credits) Program prerequisites. Students participate in a weekly seminar to discuss successes and challenges of the externship experience.
