Education: Children and Family Studies Minor

This minor is designed for students who wish to work with children, families, and educators in community-based settings. It provides a holistic overview of several key aspects of this type of work including supporting culturally and linguistically diverse children and families, understanding the nature of learning and meeting the diverse needs of learners and connecting the historical and philosophical underpinnings of the current education system and the need to strive for equity and inclusion in all settings.

The minor is offered in totally online or blended formats.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs):

  1. Apply knowledge of self, students, curriculum content, and effective instruction to develop appropriate learning outcomes and design activities to meet diverse learner needs including students with special needs and diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  2. Demonstrate the capacity to collaborate effectively and ethically with colleagues, families, and community members to promote positive and inclusive learning for all students.

Minor Details:

  • Requires 30 QH
  • Requires a minimum grade of “C” for each course in the minor
  • 15 QH must be taken at NLU
