Human Services Minor

This minor will broaden students’ knowledge and skill sets in the area of Human Services. Students will learn how to best interact and assist individuals, families and communities in need of services. The coursework will prepare students to build effective communication skills in a multicultural environment using tools such as conflict resolution and community service and assessment. 

This minor is delivered in an online format. 

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

At the completion of the Human Services minor, students will be able to:

1. Summarize the historical development of human services.
2. Explain the dynamics of interaction within and among human systems including individual, interpersonal, group, family, organizational, community, and societal.
3. Identify and analyze the scope of conditions that promote or inhibit human functioning.
4. Obtain, organize, analyze, evaluate, present, and utilize information while using appropriate technology.
5. Identify and apply appropriate practices for providing direct services and interventions to clients and client groups.
6. Develop awareness of their own values, personalities, reaction patterns, interpersonal styles, and limitations. 

Minor Details:

• Requires 30 QH for completion
• 15 QH must be completed at NLU
• Requires a minimum grade of "C" for each course in the minor

Note: The same courses may not be used to satisfy the minor and program major requirements.
