BSt 305U African History, Before 1800
An upper-division course designed to survey the history of the African continent from the period of European exploration to the eve of colonialism. Using a lecture/discussion format, the course will examine the impact of the European presence on African institutions and trade, and the relative importance of the environment, technology, and indigenous social systems on the transformation of African society prior to 1800. This course is the same as Hst 312; course may be taken only once for credit.
