LANG 281 History in Hispanic Cinema

This course explores the history, cultures, and social transformations of Hispanic countries through the lens of cinema. Using films from Latin America, Spain, and the U.S. Latino experience, supplemented by readings and presentations, students will learn about the historical and social evolution and key events in the Spanish-speaking world. We will examine the power dynamics and identity complexities depicted in the films. The movies will be watched in the original language with subtitles to make the cultural experience more complete.
