Master of Science in Information Systems (M.S.I.S.)

Master of Science in Information Systems (M.S.I.S.)

Purpose of the Program

The Master of Science in Information Systems (M.S.I.S.) is a 36 hour program consisting of courses designed to prepare students for success in the dynamic field of information technology.  Students in the M.S.I.S. program are exposed to a balanced combination of managerial and technical topics.  Graduates gain the skills and knowledge necessary to understand, develop, implement and manage information systems in all types of industries and organizations.

Length of Program

The program consists of 36 graduate semester hours including the successful completion of a capstone project. Classes meet once per week for two hours and forty minutes.  Spring and fall terms run 16 weeks; a summer term runs 4 weeks (meets 4 times per week) or 8 weeks (meets twice per week). Selected courses are offered in online or hybrid format.

Prerequisites

Undergraduate coursework in the areas of programming, design and database or equivalent work experience.

Admission Requirements

See Admissions Requirements for M.B.A. and M.S.I.S

Graduation Requirements

  • A G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher for all M.S.I.S. courses must be earned.
  • All M.S.I.S. courses must be successfully completed within 5 years of starting the M.S.I.S. program.

Academic Progress Requirements

Students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average to continue in the program. Students may carry only two active "C" grades. An "F" grade in any subject results in program dismissal.

3.0 GPA and Academic Probation

Students dropping below a cumulative 3.0 GPA are placed on academic probation. While on academic probation students are limited to 9 academic hours per semester and required to earn a minimum GPA of 3.0 for courses taken during academic probation. Failure to achieve a 3.0 GPA for semesters during academic probation result in academic suspension, a one-semester minimum dismissal from the program.

Active "C" Grades

Students may carry two active "C" grades for computing their cumulative GPA. Additional "C" grades require immediate repeating of courses to replace "C" grades with higher letter grades. This provision is in addition to the 3.0 GPA and Academic Probation provision.

Failing a Course

An "F" grade in a course results in program dismissal. In the special circumstances (illness, etc.) appeal of this provision can be made directly to the program director.
