PHIL 270 Introduction to Philosophy

An introduction to basic philosophical concepts through the use of film; it is a combination of reading both classical and contemporary philosophical texts about topics such as the nature of reality (metaphysics), the acquisition and justification of knowledge and truth (epistemology), the nature of the good (ethics and moral philosophy), and the origin and justification of political obligation (social and political philosophy). Course readings are enhanced by watching film–both television and movies–that illustrate these basic philosophical ideas.
