Bioinformatics B.S.

A bioinformatics major prepares students for careers and further education that integrate biology with computer sciences and mathematics. In bioinformatics, large sets of complex biological data are analyzed utilizing computer science and mathematics approaches to form new hypothesis and answer research questions. In the bioinformatics program students will (1) develop a strong knowledge of the foundational concepts of biology, computer sciences, mathematics, and chemistry, (2) develop computational skills relevant to bioinformatics, (3) examine the integration of biological and computational sciences and communicate related scientific information to others, (4) analyze various bioinformatics-related problems by applying algorithms and problem-solving skills, and (5) analyze and evaluate existing bioinformatics data and research to generate predictions and develop conclusions.
