CHM 345 Introduction to Biochemistry

Prerequisite: CHM 222

A one-term survey of modern biochemistry for students interested in an overview of the field. The course has three major sections: biomolecules, proteins, and metabolism. In the biomolecules section, students will study amino acids, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids. In the proteins section, students will study protein structure, function, and enzyme kinetics. Finally, in the metabolism section, students will study major carbohydrate and lipid metabolic pathways. This class draws on all four previous classes of chemistry (CHM 131/134, 221, and 222).
