First-Generation Student Support
The first-generation community (FGEN) serves as a resource for all students and families to ensure a smooth and successful transition from high school to college life and beyond. UP defines a first-generation student as one where neither of the student’s parents/guardians has earned a 4-year college degree.
The mission of FGEN is to create a sense of community for all, as well as to make clear all systems and resources of support available on campus. Throughout the academic year, the FGEN community sponsors workshops and social events, as well as highlights events of interest for all students. In addition, the program offers a peer to peer mentorship program open all students new to UP. Finally, leadership opportunities exist that allow FGEN students to connect within the FGEN community and allow for personal formation and development. Students are encouraged to browse through the resources available on the FGEN website to get a better sense of UP's FGEN community.
The FGEN community is located within the SARC, Buckley Center 101. For more information, contact FGEN at firstgen@up.edu, (503) 943-7895, or go to the FGEN webpage at www.up.edu/fgen.
