ENGL 100 Reading and Writing Review

Emphasizes the integration of critical reading and writing skills for a variety of audiences, purposes, and contexts that prepares students for university-level work in all classes. The course focuses on understanding texts, using effective reading strategies, and writing practice that foster paragraph and essay development, organization, coherent expression, and mechanics/usage (i.e., punctuation, spelling, and grammar). This course is required of students who do not place in ENGL 121, and students must receive a grade of C- or higher before they can proceed to ENGL 121. Credit does not apply toward graduation.

Notes

ENGL 121 and ENGL 122 or ENGL 141 and ENGL 142 are prerequisites to all upper-division courses. For admission to upper-division courses, students  must also have completed or be registered for ENGL 223 or HONR 243. Credit will not be allowed for both ENGL 121 and ENGL 141 or ENGL 122 and ENGL 142 or ENGL 223 and HONR 243.

Students must pass a departmental placement test, or pass ENGL 100 with a grade of C- or higher, before enrolling in the college writing sequence. ENGL 121, ENGL 122, and ENGL 223 must be taken in sequence, and students must receive a grade of C- or higher before they can proceed to the next class in the sequence.

Course does not apply toward an English major or minor.
