School Nurse Certification
NLU courses meet the Illinois standards for the Type 73 School Personnel Certification with an Endorsement in School Nurse. Earning the certification calls for both coursework and fulfilling additional requirements. Candidates are referred to the website of the Illinois State Board of Education for specific requirements, updates and amendments.
In addition to National College of Education Graduate Admission Requirements, applicants must:
- Have an Illinois license as a Registered Professional Nurse
- Pass the School Nurse Test (#182)
- Pass the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP). The results are valid for 10 years. TAP cannot be taken more than five times.
- Submit official transcripts from all institutions attended
Coursework:
- 30 SH or 45 QH of undergraduate or graduate coursework in any of the below areas:
- Public Health Nursing
- History and/or Philosophy of Education
- Educational Psychology Human Growth and Development Community Health Problems
- Sociology
- Exceptional Child
- Nutrition
- School Administration
- Curricula Design
- Communicative Skills
- Guidance and Counseling
- Diversified Occupations
- Social Case Work
- Health Education
- Health Careers,
- Mental Health
- Child or Adolescent Psychology
- A grade of “C” or better in all coursework is required
