CHM 340 Biochemistry I

This course is the first term of a two-term survey of biochemistry. It is designed for students planning to pursue biochemistry or a career in a biomedical field. It focuses on the structure and function of the four main classes of biomolecules: proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids. Students will learn how the remarkably different functions like structure, catalysis, and information transfer can be explained in terms of the molecular structures. This class draws on all three previous classes of chemistry (CHM 131/134, 221, and 222). There will be three 70 minute lectures each week.
