FILM-913 History of the Documentary

This course examines the history of the documentary as a film genre, looking at such issues as how film style conveys 'fiction' or 'reality,' how documentary conventions have changed over time and choices made by various schools of the documentary. Major traditions, movements and film makers will be studied as well as social, aesthetic, and technical aspects of documentary films.
