HIST-913 The American Civil Rights Movement

The course will survey the grass roots struggle of African Americans to gain equality and justice in the United States, tracing the movement from its origins in the years of the Jim Crow South, when racism, segregation, and discrimination reigned across the nation, through its achievements in the 1950s and 1960s, focusing upon the major events and personalities that transformed American society as well as the issues that remain unresolved and important for understanding race relations today.
