SOCI-115 Emerging World Issues

This course is an interdisciplinary/emerging issues class that will introduce the student to selected issues emerging in our changing world. This course, using social science methodologies, will examine the historical, social, political and economic origins and manifestations of the issue under examination through an interdisciplinary exploration of fi lm, art, literature, together with the economic, social, and social, and political infrastructures that drive the emerging global issue under study.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Become familiar with Social Science analytical and methodological approaches to the analysis of the selected global issue.
  2. 2. Examine the historical, social, political, economic, and cultural context of the selected global issue.
  3. 3. Evaluate the literary and artistic expressions manifested by the selected global issue.
  4. 4. Utilize the critical thinking to understand the issues and difficulties behind selected global issues.
  5. 5. Investigate and report to class how associated institutions and social movements are attempting to address the selected global issue.
  6. 6. Develop an interdisciplinary approach to analyzing the questions raised by the examination of the selected global issue.
