BIOL-203 Anatomy and Physiology I

This course is designed for students requiring a sequential two-semester learning program which provides an in-depth study of the anatomy and physiology of human body systems (BIOL-203 and BIOL-204). Topics studied include cells and tissues and the skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, and integumentary systems. The laboratory program reinforces and provides hands-on study of these body systems. The laboratory will utilize organ and animal dissections as well as models, skeletons, histology slides, and experimental studies of physiological processes.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Communicate anatomical and physiologic concepts using the correct terminology.
  2. 2. Identify the structural levels of organization from cellular to organ system level for the body
    systems covered in this course.
  3. 3. Explain the physiologic mechanisms and functions of the body systems studied in this
    course.
  4. 4. Explain the principle of homeostasis and feedback mechanisms as they relate to the body
    systems covered in this course.
  5. 5. Research, analyze, and apply the knowledge of anatomy and physiology to clinical cases
    and support the reasonableness of that analysis.
  6. 6. Apply the principles of the scientific method to a laboratory experiment, determine the
    reasonableness of the results, and present the findings in a research report.
