CHEM 104 Fundamentals of Organic and Biochemistry

Course topics include: nomenclature, physical properties, and structure of compounds such as alkanes, alcohols, amines, carboxylic acids, aldehydes, and ketones. The major organic biomolecules such as lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids, including their function in cells and tissues, will be studied. The laboratory component will develop skills necessary to analyze organic compounds and to learn experimental procedures in biochemistry including chromatography, enzyme assays, and protein characterization.
