HIST 211 East Asian Civilization
This course will cover the history of East Asian civilization and follow the development of China, Korea, and Japan. The course will include a detailed study of the cultural, political, religious, and geographical characteristics of East Asia, and it will focus on major historical trends, such as early cultures, the spread of Confucianism and Buddhism, the numerous Chinese dynasties, the interaction of China with Japan and Korea, European Imperialism, the rise of Asian nationalism, and the current status of the various nation-states.

- Describe an issue in East Asian history and its legacy from a global perspective.
- Discuss how human experience in East Asian history was shaped by global forces.
- Analyze the interconnectedness of global events in the context of East Asian history.
- Analyze and evaluate the ways in which East Asian history informs the political, cultural, and/or social issues of China, Japan, and Korea.
- Apply introductory research skills that historians use to gather and interpret information.
- Employ historical concepts, methods, and/or theories to understand behavior, institutions, and/or change over time.
