HMDV 105 Silas Craft Collegians Seminar I

This course is a special, one-credit seminar specifically designed for first-year students enrolled in the Silas Craft Collegians Program. The purpose of this course is to aid students in their transition and acclimation to the college experience. Through self-assessment, reading comprehension, writing, reflection, and self-expression, students will develop habits of mind necessary to engage in critical thought, group projects, and independent study.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify a range of campus resources and demonstrate an understanding of their role in academic success.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the mutually dependent relationship between academic accountability and personal success at the collegiate level.
  3. Understand and employ the standards governing individual and group academic work and in-class participation at the college level.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the role of coaching and role modeling in student success and engage in appropriate and productive faculty/staff mentoring relationships.
  5. Describe different leadership roles in society and articulate an initial understanding of one's own leadership philosophy and style.
  6. Define and apply the concept of ethical leadership.
