Course Description

Students gain an understanding of the inter-relatedness of health, safety, and nutrition in the life of a young child, birth through age eight. Students learn about health appraisals and appropriate assessment tools. They make an in-depth analysis of the infectious process and effective control of communicable diseases and acute illness found in the early childhood years and settings. The course examines safety management and the handling of child abuse and neglect. Students learn appropriate nutritional guidelines and practices for planning meals and snacks in the classroom. This course requires a minimum of four field experience contact hours within early childhood education settings.
