14.2 Professional Dress
Students are expected to dress appropriately (business casual) for fieldwork, classroom experiences, and in any other situation or setting in which they are on IHP business. Consider that every interaction a student has with other professionals as a stepping stone to a job interview. When representing the IHP in another setting or when interacting with patients/guests at the IHP, professional attire is also required. At a fieldwork site, students must adhere to the dress code of the specific institution to which they are assigned (e.g. open-toed shoes may not be allowed). Please also be mindful of fragrances and that patients may be sensitive to them; some hospitals do not allow the use of perfume/cologne. Shirts/blouses must have an appropriate neckline and coverage of the midriff, and pants/dress shorts/skirts/dresses must be an appropriate length (falling no shorter than mid-thigh); please account for length when seated. Work-out attire and unprofessionally tailored jeans (tears, etc.) are not appropriate in the classroom or in fieldwork. Tailored denim and leggings (not work-out) may be worn in the classroom; however, denim or leggings are not appropriate to wear for fieldwork placements or attending conferences/presentations outside of the IHP.
