1.4. Commitment to Equity and Anti-Oppression

The IHP aspires to develop and teach its students skills to better serve marginalized and minoritized communities in order to address existing inequities. In educating future health professionals, the IHP aspires to integrate anti-oppressive practice in its policies, practices, and all aspects of work: curriculum development, pedagogy, clinical environment, community engagement, research endeavors, administrative practices, and everyday interactions with one another. The IHP’s full Commitment to Equity & Anti-Oppression can be found here: https://www.mghihp.edu/equity-and-anti-oppression.

The Prerequisite Program is committed to acting in accordance with IHP values and priorities. Our Team Leadership works in partnership with the Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) to execute several IHP goals at the Prerequisite level, including:

  • Continuing to examine and develop new curricula that incorporate issues of social justice for the health care practitioner.
  • Adopting inclusive pedagogical approaches and collecting outcomes data on our teaching.
  • Providing continuing education and professional development on anti-oppression to our instructors.
  • Critically examining our teaching, learning, and practices in relation to perpetuating inequities and injustices, and confronting them by developing solutions.
