HE 812 A Pathway Toward Mastery in Teaching and Learning

Prerequisites: HP-712 or waiver of it. Whether it is possible to truly “master” teaching, we explore the ongoing process of development of mastery. Course content includes: the cognitive science of learning; the concept of adaptive expertise, and the development of learner’s confidence and ‘authority’. In pursuit of “teaching mastery” we address the impact of the hidden curriculum and explore the concept of “continuous assessment”.  To conclude, learners state their professional positions on selected course topics and define their philosophy of teaching.
