HGEN 461 Genetics

Prerequisites: HBIO-450 or equivalent, or permission of instructor. Genetics is presented as a unifying principle of all living organisms. The hereditary mechanisms of cells, individuals, and populations will be explored. Experiments and reasoning through which genetic information has been achieved will be described and analyzed. Heredity in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells is studied from molecular, chromosomal and phenotypic points of view. A strong emphasis on human genetic disease(s) and mechanisms as well as diagnosis and treatments runs throughout the course.
