NLE 750 Racial Issues in Higher Education

Educators should be able to lead conversations that strengthen one's social awareness of racism and seek to abolish educational inequities. This course confronts relevant issues surrounding race, power, and privilege in higher education. The history of racism is examined alongside principles of equity, inclusivity, and social justice. The theory and practice of antiracist teaching and the ways that racism is explained and denounced are analyzed. Students will leave with essential tools to better understand and appraise racial inequities, critically examine Whiteness, and develop and lead a race-related discourse that counters hegemonic views.
