Interdisciplinary Research Seminar

Students are required to register for and attend a weekly one-hour Interdisciplinary Research Seminar throughout the duration of the program. During the first two years of the program, students register for the Interdisciplinary Research Seminar (HRS 960). Following Year 2, students continue to attend Seminar as a requirement of the RS 997 and RS 998 Continuing Student courses. Seminar presenters will include IHP faculty, rehabilitation researchers based outside of the IHP, and IHP PhD students. Students are required to present an update on their own research each year. The aims of the seminar are: 1) to expose students to a variety of current research topics and research designs in rehabilitation sciences; 2) to provide an opportunity for students to share their research with the IHP community; 3) to support and provide feedback to students as they develop their own research; 4) to provide a supportive environment for students to hone dissemination/presentation skills; 5) to provide a forum for and model respectful scholarly discussions, and 6) to provide an opportunity for professional development topics. The focus of the student presentations will be on providing an update on the progress they are making in pursuing their own research which could include a review of the current state-of-the-art in a research area, proposed research questions and designs (including potential grant proposals), status of their ongoing research, and/or preliminary or final results of an investigation. The Seminar course is graded on a pass/fail basis. Students must demonstrate consistent performance in each of the requirements including regular attendance, presenting student updates on an annual basis, introducing guest speakers & facilitating discussions as assigned, asking questions/ participating in discussion.
