This course focuses on the study of adult development processes and their relationship to learning and change. This course introduces students to psycholinguistics: the study of how humans acquire, comprehend, produce, and use language. This course explores basic concepts in theory and research in cognitive processes with an emphasis on human memory. This course introduces students to the numerous viewpoints on the nature and development of personality. This course deals with play across age spectrums and in differing contexts. Students will be introduced to the role of the group and sociocultural factors in the development of behaviors in individuals, with special attention given to group dynamics. Illustrations will be presented on how social psychologists study people and formulate theories. LAP340 Effective Interpersonal Relationships

This course focuses on dyadic and small group relationships and examines the causes and results of different types of relationships. Students will explore the components of healthy relationships, the roles and responsibilities of the individuals in those relationships, the development of models of effective interpersonal relationships and their consequences. This course will allow students to focus on the helping skills needed for small groups and dyads in community settings. Students will be introduced to the cross-cultural study of the self as it has been understood in the Western and Eastern cultures. This course presents an interdisciplinary study of the self-concept drawn from the social, psychological, sociological, and anthropological literature. This course will explore the question of the connection of brain, mind, and consciousness and its relevance in near-death experience studies.
