Spanish Language and Culture Studies Major
Students in the Liberal Arts Studies, B.A.; Applied Behavioral Sciences, B.A.; Management, B.S.; Management Information Systems, B.S. or Health Care Leadership, B.S. programs may select a major in Spanish Language and Culture Studies. This major is a combination of a traditional Spanish major and Latino studies. It provides students with a solid foundation in the literature, history, culture and linguistics of the Spanish-speaking world.
Spanish Language and Culture Studies places a strong emphasis on reading and writing skills designed to enhance Spanish heritage speakers’ academic and career opportunities.
This major requires:
- 50 QH including Spanish Language courses taken as part of the General Education requirement
- 25 QH of upper level coursework
- 25 QH of upper level must be taken at NLU
- A minimum grade of “C” for each course in the major
- All students are assessed for Spanish language proficiency prior to admission. Students whose Spanish language proficiency in any skill area falls below the intermediate level are required to take SPAN 245 Reading and Writing for Heritage Speakers.
