MTH 102 Statistical Foundations

This course introduces descriptive and inferential statistics. Students learn how to think critically about statistical concepts, recognize misrepresentation of statistical data in real life, and analyze large amounts of data, applying basic statistical methods and calculations using Microsoft EXCEL. Topics include: experimental design and data collection, probability, data distributions, graphing techniques, measures of central tendency and dispersion, the normal measures of central tendency and dispersion, the normal testing. Microsoft EXCEL is a required software tool for this course, and it will be utilized for various statistical calculations. This course counts in the Quantitative Reasoning area of general education. The class time is split between the classroom or online work, and some work in an adaptive learning environment. Pre-requisite(s): MTH 101 or equivalent. Co-requisite(s): None. 5 quarter hours
