Elementary Education Subsequent Teaching Endorsement

Teachers who have an Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed for early childhood education, secondary education or special education may add a subsequent teaching endorsement in elementary education by completing the ELE professional coursework identified below.

Candidates for a subsequent teaching endorsement should be admitted to NLU if they wish to have their transcripts reviewed and evaluated for the endorsement.

In addition to National College of Education Graduate Admission Requirements, program requires:

  • Valid and current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed in the teaching field (teaching endorsements can’t be added to administrative and school support PEL’s)
  • Faculty review

Endorsement Details: 

  • Requires 18 SH for completion
  • Requires a minimum grade of “C” in all coursework
  • Requires passing of the Elementary Education content test (#197-200)
  • Note: Candidates may be eligible for financial aid. Contact the Financial Aid office for more information.

Note: CIS 540 and SCE 540 must be taken for 3 SH. Students are also required to complete 1 SH of additional elective course approved by the Program Chair. 

Upon completion of all endorsement requirements, candidates may apply for a State endorsement in elementary education though NLU's entitlement process.
