Probationary Admission:

Except for the Teaching MyWay Program, which has no probationary admission, a limited number of students may be admitted on probationary admission by consent of the Admissions Committee. An interview may be required.

Students admitted on probationary admission will need to successfully master all competencies in which they are registered within their first 6-month term of enrollment. If all competencies are successfully mastered, a student's probationary admission status will be removed. If a student does not successfully master all competencies within the first 6-month term, the student would not be eligible to register for the next term.

Individuals who are denied admission on the basis of the criteria listed above may appeal to the Admissions Office.  The appeal must be made in writing and must specify the admission requirement(s) to be reviewed.  Any supporting evidence not originally submitted with admissions materials should be included.  Please contact the Admissions Office for further information.

For All Students:

To be considered for admission to MyWay at UMHB, prospective students must submit:

  • an application for admission with the non-refundable application fee.  (Teaching MyWay applicants should wait to submit an application for admission until after an invitation to enter the UMHB Educator Preparation Program has been issued and accepted in writing.)
  • an official transcript for each college/university previously attended (sent directly from the institution to UMHB).  Even though courses taken at one institution are noted on another college's transcript, applicants must submit transcripts from the institution at which the courses were taken.  Transcripts from other institutions which have been submitted for admission or evaluation become part of the student's academic file and are not returned or copied for distribution.

Application Process for Teaching MyWay

Teaching requires self-determination, a giving disposition, and a high level of academic proficiency.  This program is intended for individuals with bachelor's degrees who are looking for an opportunity to lead children and adolescents academically.  Candidates must meet strict state requirements PRIOR to being enrolled in the program.  If you wish to pursue the program, your first step is to contact one of the Certification Coordinators in the College of Education at UMHB.  They can tell you whether or not you meet the minimum proficiency levels required for the program.

Acceptance into the Educator Preparation Program is required prior to any MyWay coursework.  This involves a series of sequential steps:
  1. Take and pass a Texas PACT Exam in the field of certification desired.  Information about the PACT test can be obtained at https://tea.texas.gov/Texas_Educators/Certification/Educator_Testing/Pre-Admission_Content_Test/
  2. Provide the Certification Office with all transcripts for the bachelor's degree, documenting a GPA of 2.75 or higher to the Certification Coordinator at UMHB.
  3. Provide Certification Coordinator at UMHB with documentation of coursework or proficiency in public speaking and technology.
  4. Meet expectations in a video interview with the UMHB College of Education Dean or Associate Dean.
  5. Complete a writing sample under the direction of the UMHB Certification Office.
  6. Working with the UMHB Certification Office, print, sign, scan, and submit a series of required documents.
  7. Complete and submit the formal application for admission to the UMHB Educator Preparation Program.
  8. Upon issuance of an invitation to enter the Educator Preparation Program (extended via email), submit written acceptance of the invitation.
