The primary focus of this course is planning and implementing effective, developmentally-appropriate sheltered instruction for English learners. The English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) are used in lesson development to include the goals of sheltered instruction. Students explore a variety of state assessments for ELs which include the bilingual version of the STAAR test and the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS). Attention is given to laws regarding teaching migrant children and working with families of ELs. This is a field-based course. Prerequisite: EDUC 4315 or EDSP 4316.
