Physical therapist assistants held about 90,170 jobs in May 2017. The industries that employed the most physical therapist assistants in were as follows:

• Offices: private physical therapy (51 percent)
• Hospitals (21 percent)
• Skilled nursing facilities (12 percent)
• Home health care services (10 percent)
• Offices: physician-based (5 percent)

Employment opportunities are projected to grow by approximately 30 percent from 2016 through 2026.
